Laura Rojo MacLeod

 

 

Prof. Laura Maria Rojo MacLeod, originally from San Miguel de Tucuman, Argentina, is celebrating 25 years as educator for all formal levels of education,  all fields translator and as environmental instructor.  Language, nature, teaching, and translating are her true passions.


 Laura is a graduate from UNT (Universidad Nacional de Tucuman) and ICALV (Instituto Cultural Argentino de Lenguas Vivas, Buenos Aires, Argentina. She holds a Proficiency Certificate in English from Cambridge University, UK, and another from the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, among others. She has lived and worked abroad, perfecting her world languages English & French and was active member of international organizations.  She was board member secretary, translator and coordinator of IFUW (Int. Federation of University Women) in Tucuman. She serves on boards of educational committees, public libraries and professional organizations.


 As bilingual educator with extensive experience in all levels of education, she has created educational materials, courses and programs for public and private institutions. She was instrumental in starting the first bilingual after-school program in public schools in her hometown. A special teaching highlight was her job as Assistant Prof. & Translator in the career Informatics, UNSTA, Argentina. Her qualified program * Spanish English Social* develops language skills and effective bilingual communicative competence. 


 As translator of many areas of human activity, she has translated for education, literature, medicine, meteorology, work & industry  (sugar, citrus, paper, construction), trade, human resources, communication, legal, biology, humanities, tourism, marketing, environment and nature, information technology and psychology.    She has worked as an educational interpreter for UMass, Amherst, translated academic papers for Instituto Cervantes at Harvard University (FAS), also was the relational liaison and interpreter at the firm  20th Century Illuminations,  and translated technical handbooks for Human Resource Development Press, Inc.  Recently, she translated environmental material for Linnean Solutions, Cambridge, MA.


 As executive secretary and personal assistant, she has worked for a premier export/import citrus and construction company providing effective organization, implementation and group management. Her highly motivated approach contributed to the company’s first place position. She also conducted product store check and research. 


 As environmental educator and founder of groups, she created, translated and organized a variety of ecological projects, activities & material in her roles from assistant and project manager to president.  She translated the first UNESCO/UNEP (United Nations Environmental Program) handbook in Argentina. Her foundational dream still soars high: to achieve full global environmental ethics.


At present, Laura combines her passions as the founder/director of *Amherst Bilingual Studio* where she provides a variety of programs in translation, education and the environment, including events and in-house training. She is president of community and school groups, a longtime Sierra Club outing leader, a GWI/USA, IAPTI member and a board member of LWV and NETA (New England Translators Association); she serves as NETA's editor as well. Her publications include bilingual poetry, educational books, environmental and human resource material.   She organizes lively workshops and continues educating, writing and awakening consciences to protect nature, for a better world for all. 


And she loves cooking and baking her Argentina Gourmet specialties! Laura lives with her family in Amherst, Massachusetts.
